The Alley Or The Busy City Street?

September 14th, 2022

The ride through the alley is peaceful. I enjoy the scenery. I enjoy having the whole alley to myself. The alley’s almost always empty, with the feel of a scenic route. I don’t have to deal with cars or stop light. There’s an allure to taking the alley, almost like I’m doing something I’m not supposed to, something society frowns upon.

I like to think I’m a people person. I like being around people. I like people around me. There’s always people throughout the city streets. I enjoy curb hopping, views of the city, looking through display windows, stopping at a local windowsill café for a Café con Leche, drinking the coffee while I sit on my bike, watching the hustle and bustle of the city. I like hearing and seeing buses pass. I like the option of taking a bus. I like navigating around the bus stops. The ride is more exhilarating.

Today, I have a sandwich and drink. Finding an out of the way place to eat within the alley is easier. Sitting and eating in the peaceful environment of the alley feels more enjoyable today. I’m not feeling very social. I feel like keeping to myself, eating without anyone around. The privacy of the alley is a benefit.

I think I’ll take the alley. At worst, I could navigate to the city street if I decide I’d rather ride through the city streets.

She’s Been Walking All Night

September 14th, 2022

She’s been walking all night, late in the day, mile after mile. The streets don’t end. Hungry, malnourished, the sun beats down, dehydration sets in.

Muscles frail and tight, she lifts her legs with all her might. She’s been used all her life, alone and delirious, she struggles within.

Days turned to dusks. Dusks turned to nights. Nights turned to dawns. Dawns turned to days. Winters to Springs, Springs to Summers. Summers to Falls. Falls to Winters. In rapid succession. Life goes by much quicker on the streets. Yet the pain feels much slower, physically and mentally.

Shivering in the winter. Sweating in the summer. Soaked when rain falls. Dehydrated from the sun. Thankless Thanksgivings. Giftless Christmases. Cement beds to sleep.

The streets turned her much harsher, much quicker. Her health deteriorated much quicker. Many friends came and went. Her family didn’t ever exist.

A bus bench is ahead. A few minutes later, she takes a seat. Late at night, all alone. Her eyes close. Her body slides down the bench to the seat. She falls asleep.

The Power Of Words

September 14th, 2022
The Power Of Words

Words describe, explain, express, convey. Words tell stories. Words bring joy and sorrow. Words come in all sizes, shapes and forms. Caring, thoughtful, honest and kind. Anger scathing, anguish and rude. Written from feelings, derived from life. Some written with desperation. Others with love. Words put what’s on the inside out. Thoughts, feelings, ideas and notes. Some words are written not to forget. Some with regret. Some with joy. Some words are jumbled, written under stress. Some to vent. Others to teach. Books are written, stories are told. Days are described. In a journal they go. Some go live, in a blog or newspaper. Some written to deceive, written with malice and anger. Some written from being deceived, written from pain within. Some written with passion, showing a person’s deepest feelings within.

The Fair: A Whimsical Atmosphere

September 14th, 2022
Ode To The Fair

A place where Christmas lights flash during Spring Summer and Fall. Scents of tasty food fill the air, for miles and miles. Fried Dough is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ice Cream parlors are found at almost every corner. People of all ages play games, ride rides, all day, deep into the night. Music, laughing, amusements, and thrills only add to the whimsical atmosphere.

There’s more to the allure, Tractor Pulls, Bumper Cars, Traipse Artist, Art Exhibits, Petting Zoos and Clowns. They’re found all over the world: Fairs, Expos, Carnivals, and Amusement parks. They move from town to town, city to city. You’ll have to be quick. Don’t miss out. They only last a jiff.

She Dances Alone

September 14th, 2022
She Dances Alone

Wearing skintight jeans and Wayfarers, without a smile or frown, in the middle of the dance floor, she dances alone.
Bodies all around. Sounds, flashing lights.
In the middle of the dance floor she dances alone.
Spotlights, horns sound, base pounds.
Two records spin. Noise everywhere. Yet not a sound.

The 1980’s Were 30 Years Ago

January 1st, 2022

As of 2020, the 1980’s were 30 years ago. For many of us, the decade is difficult to forget.

The 80’s represent energy, Boomboxes, Breakdancing, Legwarmers, Headbands, Nightclubs, Skating Rinks, Saturday Morning Cartoons, MTV, Supercars, Arcades, Rae Bans, Heavy Metal Rock Bands and much more.

The 1980’s represent freedom. Freedom of speech. The type of freedom allowing a person to be themselves and express themselves without many of the consequences people often face from society today. Though, what I feel the 1980’s represent most is creativity. More cool, unique things were introduced in the 1980’s than any other decade I’ve either lived through or learnt about.

Supercars became a thing in the 80’s. 80’s music became a thing. Many of the tunes introduced in the 80’s are still played today. Boomboxes, Breakdancing, Legwarmers, Computers, Video Games, Saturday Morning Cartoons and Rae Bans all became things in the 1980’s. Things many of us still enjoy today.

Atari came to life in the 1980’s. The 80’s started a video gaming boom, loud enough to keep the industry booming to this very day.

Computers were introduced to the general public in the 1980’s. Many who lived through the 80’s have exceptionally good memories of the Commodore 64, early IBM and Apple computers.

During the 80’s most didn’t have to worry about hacking. Heck, I don’t even think I knew what computer hacking was till the early 1990’s. People didn’t have to worry about others intruding on their enjoyment of life. The 80’s offered a sense of freeness.

The 1980’s were also responsible for one of the greatest sports stories in history. The 1980 men’s Olympic hockey team. Nothing screams 80’s louder than a story about an unknown team or person going from the unknown to greatness.

Though, the decade wasn’t without issues. There was plenty of violence. There was drug abuse. I’m not talking about recreational drugs. Some of the drugs many used in the 80’s were much more destructive. Drugs that weren’t good. Drugs I don’t feel represented the decade.

Luckily, I didn’t see the corrupt side of the 1980’s. By the mid 1980’s I was 11. At 11, it’s difficult to see the bad. Even today, I know those things only represented a small percentage of the decade. A decade I remember today, 30 years later, with great fondness.

Writing, Thoughts 2022

January 1st, 2022
Writing Thoughts, 2022

Pancakes with blueberry toppings. When I’ve got nothing to write, I write about nothing. Then, I’ve got something to write about. Compassion, tact, Russian Blue Cats, Rabbits. Anger, jerks. There are people in this world worthy of the word hate. There are things in this world so horrific, they’re unforgivable. There aren’t any winners in war, only losers. There isn’t any art in war. There are good things in this world. Good conversations, smoothies, fairs, prayers, God. Walking under the moonlight and stars on a brisk city night. Cool things from the past, Pagers, Typewriters, Service Merchandise, Bradlees, Saturday Morning Cartoons, the 1980’s. Dave and Busters, book store cafes.
Birds chirping early in the morning.

Someone is laughing. Someone is chatting. Someone is dancing. Someone is singing. Someone is riding a bicycle. Someone is at the laundry mat. Someone is on vacation. Someone is exercising. Someone is at a park, having a picnic. Someone is taking a walk. Someone is reading. Someone is writing. Someone is flirting. Someone is on a date. Someone is dreaming. Someone is thinking. Someone is at the library. Someone is teaching. Someone is learning. Someone is being honest. Someone is painting. Someone is skipping. Someone is at a Flea Market. Someone is taking a photograph. Someone is playing an instrument. Someone is listening to music. Someone is playing a board game. Someone is at an amusement park. Someone is at a tag sale. Someone is gardening. Someone is brushing their teeth. Someone is flying a kite. Someone is on a bus. Someone is on a train. Someone is swimming. Someone is relaxing. Someone is at church.
